Bernards, NJ - The Bernards Township Republican Municipal Committee (RMC) is proud to announce its endorsement of Paul Humbert and Vanathi Raghupathy as the Republican candidates for Bernards Township Committee.
Experienced, Community‑Focused Leadership for Bernards Township
Both candidates bring deep commitment to the community, strong professional backgrounds, a shared dedication to fiscal responsibility, public safety, and preserving the character of Bernards Township and all that makes Bernards the incredible home where they both have chosen to raise their families. “Congratulations to Paul and Vanathi who will be exceptional representatives of the entire Bernards community and fight for all our residents” said Scott Mitzner, Chair of the BTRMC. “Their shared messages of unity, controlling overdevelopment and its impacts, and focusing on the issues Bernards faces both now and planning for the future resonate with all residents.”
Paul Humbert: Proven Leadership and Long Standing Commitment to Bernards Township
Longtime resident Paul Humbert has lived in Basking Ridge since 1980, raising his family here and contributing decades of service to the community. Paul brings common sense conservative values, a focus on fiscal discipline, and a deep understanding of township issues.
Paul’s professional background in optimizing supply chains and managing complex transactions translates directly to fiscal oversight, operational efficiency, and accountable governance. His involvement in local politics began with his opposition to the Millington Quarry development, a project he believed would have “permanently altered the character of our community.” Paul successfully fought against this overdevelopment and will continue to do so for all of Bernards.
Paul has consistently advocated for transparency, responsible budgeting, and protecting the township’s long standing tradition of zero debt. “Residents deserve clear cost analysis and an honest assessment of how proposed changes will impact the long-term character of Bernards,” he has said.
Vanathi Raghupathy: A Voice for Families, Safety, and Responsible Growth
A Basking Ridge resident since 2016, Vanathi Raghupathy has been an active volunteer and fundraiser across the community. As a parent, immigrant, and professional in the technology sector, she offers a grounded, real world perspective on the needs of Bernards Township.
Vanathi emphasizes thoughtful planning around growth and infrastructure. She believes the township must prioritize school capacity and infrastructure before considering additional housing developments. She also supports continued investment in public safety, ensuring that police, first responders, and community services remain strong and well supported.
“Basking Ridge is my home,” Vanathi says. “My children were born here. My first flight, first car, and first vote all happened in the United States. I understand the hopes and concerns of families who work hard, contribute to the community, and want stability and opportunity.” Vanathi volunteers at the Bridgewater Hindu Temple and serves on the Community Affairs Committee. As a special needs parent, she understands the importance of time, compassion, and strong community ties.
As a data analyst with a master’s degree in computer science, Vanathi brings analytical skills and practical problem solving to local government. She understands the challenges faced by legal immigrants navigating today’s complex immigration environment. “I will be a representative for all residents who came here legally, worked hard, paid taxes, and waited years to build a life in this country,” she notes.
A Shared Vision for Bernards Township
Together, Humbert and Raghupathy are committed to:
• Keeping Bernards Township debt-free
• Opposing overdevelopment and preserving community character
• Fully funding and supporting police and first responders
• Ensuring transparency and open communication with residents
• Protecting the qualities that make Bernards Township an incredible community to live in and raise a family
